THE ARAL SEA

Not a long time had passed since The Aral Sea was the 4-th largest lake in the World. The Aral Sea was well known for its abundant natural supplies. And the area bordering with Aral Sea was considered as a flourishing and biologically plentiful natural environment. And it is not wonder that the lake was named Aral. You know the word “aral” means “an island” in Turkic. Probably, our forefathers considered The Aral Sea as a saving island of live and prosperity among the hot deserts of Karakum and Kyzyl-Kum. But by 1995 the Aral Sea has lost? of the whole its water capacity and the surface area has reduced more than to half. Nowadays more than 33 000 km2 of lake bottom have been outcropped and dried. Shoreline has deserted to 100-150 km. The Sea itself was divided into 2 parts – Big Aral and Small Aral. In one word – the Aral Sea is drying, the Aral Sea is dying. You have a great opportunity to see the tragedy of Aral Sea with your own eyes.
