THE CONTRASTS OF THE PAMIRS

PamirThis spectacular trek in the Pamir region affords stunning panoramas of the huge peaks in the Pamir region - peak Communism, peak Korzhenevskaya and peak Lenin. This is the country of contrasts: lifeless deserts, snow covered summits and the deepest river canyons, mountain tundra and turquoise lakes, tropical heat and severe polar cold. While trekking guests will have a chance to see daily life of local inhabitants of Fergana and Alai valleys. The itinerary does not require special training.

The best time to travel is July-September.

Day 1 Arrival in Tashkent. Welcome at the airport. Hotel transfer. Afternoon transfer to Samarkand (290 km; 4 hrs). Accommodation in the hotel.
Day 2 Full day in Samarkand. Afterwards we take a night train to Fergana - the biggest city in the Fergana Valley.
Day 3 Arrival in Fergana (Margilan railway station). Breakfast in the restaurant. Transfer by truck via Haiydarkan village to the Alaudin river valley. Camp on the riverbank (2500 m). Lunch. Preparation for trekking. Dinner.
Day 4 Route by a good path to the Upper Alaudin river. Afternoon ascent to the Alpine zone (10 km; 6 hrs). From the camp we gain magnificent views of the mountains. (3480 m; + 950 m).
Day 5 We cross the Kumbel pass (3958 m.). Descent to a small lake for a rest. After crossing an easy pass we descend to the Ikkidavan river valley (12 km; 7 hrs; + 450m; - 900 m.). Camp (3050 m.) We enjoy attractive views of the Alaiskiy range and peak Kichik Ailama (5044 m) .
Day 6 Walk to the Upper Ikkidavan river. A good path leads us along the right bank of the river through juniper groves till the Ikkidavan glacier (8 km; 5 hrs; + 650 m). Camp near the glacier ( 3700).
Day 7 It will be a strenuous day. Cross Alaiskiy range and ascend to the Alaudin pass (4296 m.) on a snowy slope. This pass is the watershed point between the two biggest rivers of Middle Asia; Syrdarya and Amudarya. Easy ascent on the Alaudin glacier (8 km; 6 hrs; + 300 m). Camp. (400 m.) From the camp we are rewarded with attractive panorama of the glaciers and the greatest peaks of Alaiyskiy range.
Day 8 Descent on a good path to the wide valley of Koksu river. River Crossing (9 km; 4 hrs; - 500 m). Camp on the right bank of the river (3500 m.)
Day 9 On this day we ascend to the one of the biggest glaciers of the Alaiyskiy range - Abramov glacier (length - 10 km; area - 25 sq. km) (5 km; 7 hrs). Accommodation in the cottages of the Mountain Weather Forecasting Station "Abramov Glacier": (3780 m). After lunch, an excursion to the weather station, meeting with the staff.
Day 10 Rest day. Excursions to glaciers.
Day 11 We ascend on the glacier to the Bokbash pass (4330 m) and gain spectacular views of the Pamir ranges - Zaalaiskiy, Peter the I and peaks of Lenin (7134 m.), Korjenevskoi (7105 m) and Communism (7495 m). Afterwards we descend the snowy slope of a small glacier to the Alaiyskaya valley and Kuturgan river (10 km; 5 hrs; + 550; - 930). Camp near the glacier (3600 m.)
Day 12 Descent on the grassy slopes along Kuturgan river to the settlements of Kyrgyz shepherds. We observe and learn daily way of local life and rest in Kyrgyz yurts. Further we continue descending on a good path along the right bank to the canyon of Oksu river (18 km; 4 hrs). Camp on the riverbank not too far from a road (2800 m).
